Dear DGG,
I have been married for 20 years, and I rarely have vaginal infections. My husband travelled for a week recently and upon his return, I have been battling with one STI after the other. Does this mean he is cheating? Should I confront him about it? Please advise me.
From a Concerned Wife
Hello Dear,
I am sorry that you are going through this, but I will entreat you to calm down and not jump to conclusions. First, be assured that, vaginal infections including STIs, can be contracted without either partner in a relationship having cheated. Read this blog on our website to learn more about this: [IS IT POSSIBLE TO CONTRACT STIs/STDs IN A MONOGAMOUS RELATIONSHIP?]. Since you have enjoyed 20 years of marriage, I believe it is safe to say that your husband most probably hasn’t cheated on you. Please don’t allow unfounded suspicions to affect the relationship that you and your husband have spent years building.
Secondly, how do you know that you have had one STI after the other? Yes, you may be experiencing some symptoms, but your message doesn’t indicate that you got an actual diagnosis from your doctor. My advice is that you inform your husband about the symptoms you are experiencing so that you both can go and see your doctor for a thorough examination to determine what the problem is, and both of you can get treated. Do let me know if you need further clarification or have any questions after you have read our blog. We, at DGG, are here to give you all the support you need. Wishing you another 20 years and more of married bliss.
Best regards,
Angela Anarfi Gyasi-Gyamerah (PhD).
