We are all reminded today, on Father’s Day, that we need to appreciate our fathers, uncles, brothers, and any important male figures in our lives who have contributed to our growth and development. The role of fathers is so crucial in the life of a growing child, yet it can go unnoticed and unappreciated. Nonetheless, fathers all around the world are doing all they can to provide, protect, guide, and support their families. Our hats off to you all!
We may not hear much about how fathers can ensure the sexual and reproductive health of their adolescent children, but their role is essential. While growing up, we look up to our fathers and father figures and have confidence in their counsel.

This is a good opportunity for fathers out there to share nuggets of wisdom on how to take care of our sexual and reproductive health and encourage their wards not to get involved in risky sexual behaviours that compromise their sexual and reproductive health. Fathers can also act as a guide to help their wards understand the changes that occur within them, especially the male children, and help them navigate the challenges that accompany these changes. Fathers can use their own experiences to shape their children to take better decisions regarding their sexual health. I must say that a lot of fathers are doing these and many more in their own ways. Society needs to continually encourage and appreciate what fathers do for us so that they will be motivated to do more.

Fatherhood is indeed a blessing. Sigmund Freud once said that “I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father’s protection.” Indeed, we all need fathers and fathers have been there for us. On this Father’s Day, let us show these deserving men in our lives the special place they have in our hearts and what great influence they have on us.
DGG celebrates all fathers!
We appreciate your support and guidance!
Happy Father’s Day!
